What everyone knows

The “Willie For President” mural is located in the SoCo neighborhood, nearby other instagrammable murals.

What they don't tell you

The mural is so popular that you can actually purchase wall hangings, coasters, hats and tees of its image.

Do it like a local

If you find yourself in the trendy S. Congress neighborhood, you should definitely take a selfie with Willie as well as multiple other murals in the area. You will also find numerous hip eateries in walking proximity.

For the History Buffs

On the side of a men’s clothing company on the corner of S. Congress Ave. & Elizabeth St. you will find a popular as well as enthusiastic street art with the optimistic words “Willie For President” painted above a portrait of a much younger Willie Nelson. Stag Provisions For Men teamed up with three artists Jacqui Oakley, Erick Montes, & Joe Swec pull off the mural proposing Willie for President with red and white rays extending from the center to the outside of the picture. Along with its live music scene, multiple festivals, hip eateries, and “Keep Austin Weird” tradition, you gotta love Austin’s creative street art! The capital city is abounding in instagrammable murals! In addition to Willie’s 60X20 ft. other mural, a one ton eight foot bronze statue, and a street named after him, you would think the double braided country singer is originally from here. However, he does reside on a ranch in nearby Spicewood, TX. Who knows? Considering American politics, lately, maybe one day Willie will perform his signature hit “Always On My Mind” while In Office. Stranger things have happened! (Although, I much prefer the upbeat, dancey version the Pet Shop Boys covered in the 80’s).
